How to keep your Invisalign and Spark Clear Aligners and your Retainers Squeaky Clean

By Dr Daniel De Angelis – Adelaide’s Leading Specialist Orthodontist

Keeping your Invisalign or Spark clear aligners clean is super easy and absolutely essential. Unlike braces, the great thing about clear aligners is being able to take them out for cleaning, and for brushing your teeth. Check out our video to see how to clean your clear aligners and your retainers.

Our top tips

  • Use cold water and a toothbrush to gently rinse and clean
  • Don’t use hot water or toothpaste as these can damage clear aligners and retainers
  • Clean and rinse regularly especially in the morning, the evening and after meals
  • Keep your Invisalign and Spark clear aligners and retainers in your aligner case (the white TOC square box we give out in the clinic) to prevent damage or loss (which can be easy when you’re out and about!)
  • Wear your retainers 24 hours for the first 7 days (except for eating and brushing your teeth) then wear them nightly
  • It’s common for retainers to break because of the pressure applied by the jaw onto the retainer (especially at night). If your retainer breaks please contact us and we will happily replace for you, for two years after your treatment has finished
